When you ask Jeff Kawzenuk to talk about himself, he is remarkably humble. He first explains that he is a motors man, all the way! His father, Paul, worked at General Motors in Oshawa for 37 years.
“It was a sad day for Ontario when that chapter of our history closed."
Although many of his friends and family members pursued careers in the auto industry, Jeff followed a different calling. After graduating from York University, where he represented his university as a varsity athlete, Jeff began a career in education as a teacher and later as a well respected Principal. Along the way, he did accumulate a few awards for excellence in his field, including the York University Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Ontario Library Association’s Principal of the Year.
Jeff and Maureen are the proud parents of Jesse, Jaime and Jenna, all graduates of local high schools and Ontario universities. Most family vacations involve finding snow on the downhill slopes. Jeff is a part-time landscaper in his spare time and has transformed many a backyard throughout the riding. The Kawzenuks have lived in Colborne for 36 years.
Throughout Jeff’s long career in education, he has been fortunate to work in many communities across Northumberland-Peterborough South, such as Cobourg, Port Hope, Brighton and Peterborough. Living in Colborne, Jeff understands the importance of recognizing the many small towns and villages that make Northumberland-Peterborough South so special.
Jeff is a community builder. He has demonstrated his commitment to the families in Northumberland-Peterborough South through coaching thousands of young athletes, fundraising for hundreds of causes and championing the creation of an inclusive society in which all members can thrive. Jeff has been a tireless supporter of those in need locally and globally.
“The spirit of giving is contagious and fulfilling. When one helps the developing world - one’s community gets stronger."
Everywhere Jeff goes in the riding, he runs into former students, athletes, colleagues and committee members he's worked with.
"I feel an immense sense of pride in my home community and the small part I’ve played in the lives of students. You can't beat how great that kind of community connection feels. I want to continue working for my home community. I am committed and dedicated to Northumberland-Peterborough South."
"I just heard that Jeff Kawzenuk is running as the Ontario Liberal Candidate in Northumberland Peterborough South. Best news I’ve heard in a long time. I hope the riding knows how lucky they are to have such an honest, experienced candidate who will lead with integrity. As a long term manager of the Ontario Elections Office here in Oshawa, I know a little bit about the qualities of a great candidate, trust me, he has them all. My grandmother, Florence Craddock was the founder of the Ontario Women’s Liberal Association in Hamilton and I know she would have been thrilled that we are finally getting candidates who put honesty, hard work, experience and integrity first on their resumes. Go Jeff!"
"I am thrilled to support Jeff Kawzenuk in his pursuit to represent Northumberland-Peterborough South for the Liberal Party, as his values and compassion have always been displayed through his actions to better his community. These actions included contributing countless hours into the school community through coaching. As an elite athlete, I know firsthand the impact a caring coach can have. The Olympics were something I only daydreamed of, but a committed high school coach impacted me in ways that are now becoming obvious to me, almost 10 years later. Jeff and my old coach have something very similar in common, and that is the belief that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. Coaches at the high school level are selfless, they do it because they are invested in the community and they take the opportunity to create environments that encourage work ethic, teamwork, commitment, and fun. Thousands of the children in the community benefited from Jeff’s desire to create an environment for them to grow and develop, and the community always benefits from an investment into children’s futures. I believe that Jeff Kawzenuk would do an incredible job if elected. He knows the community, as he has helped raise generations of it. There is no one better suited to represent you, and I implore you all to cast your ballots for Jeff."
"It is with unmitigated enthusiasm that I extend my support for Jeff Kawzenuk to represent you at Queen's Park. I have known Jeff and his family for over 40 years, his allegiance to the human family and society as a whole is second to none. Jeff comes from a working class family. He has deep roots in the community, your issues and concerns are Jeff's issues and concerns.
I witnessed first hand as the Conservative Government sat idly by and watched thousands of manufacturing jobs leave our province without so much as a whimper. We would have been better served having a Jeff Kawzenuk and his ardent compassion standing up for us.
Your family, friends and neighbours deserve to have someone of Jeff's intestinal fortitude representing your interests in the Ontario Legislature."
"I was recently informed that Jeff Kawzenuk is running for the position of the Ontario Liberal Candidate in Northumberland Peterborough, South. Apart from his professional accomplishments and years of public service in the field of education, I feel confident in commenting on his character. I have been a classroom teacher for 32 years with the Durham Catholic District School Board and I've known Jeff for thirty years.
The first words I think of when I think of Jeff are determination and integrity. I know Jeff as a caring father who would spend countless hours constructing an outdoor rink for his family and friends or setting up a zip line for the neighbourhood to enjoy. He then used his knowledge of construction to venture on many trips building houses for those less fortunate in Africa while raising money here in Canada to support the cause. This is the type of politician that I believe can truly inspire unity in these divisive times."
